The Rules

PinGolf should be fun! Please keep the event fun for everybody by not getting overly competitive, welcoming new pinball participants, and being patient if there is a bottle neck waiting on a game.

Every player will play a game on every machine. Each machine will be considered one "hole" on your round of golf. Every "hole" will have a target score, it is your goal to achieve that score in the fewest number of balls possible. If you do not reach the target score, you'll receive a one stroke penalty.

At the end of the round, the top performers will advance to a knockout tournament to determine the winners for the event.

Scoring

  1. The best you can do on a "hole" is 1 (a hole in one). The worst you can do is 6 (3 balls + 3 penalty strokes).

  2. Penalty strokes are determined based on how close you get to the target score. All penalty stroke score ranges will be printed on each machine and on your score sheet. Below is an example of how penalty strokes will work:

    • The target score is 6 million.

      • 0-1,999,999 = 3 penalty strokes

      • 2,000,000 - 3,999,999 = 2 penalty strokes

      • 4,000,000 - 5,999,999 = 1 penalty strokes

  3. Extra balls DO NOT count towards a stroke. If you earn an extra ball on ball 2 but haven't met the target score, you can play your extra ball. If you achieve the target score, you will record a 2 for that hole. If you play the extra ball and still don't meet the target score, carry on with the rest of your game, continuting with ball 3, but do not count the extra ball as a stroke.

  4. Record on the score sheet your "golf" score (1-6) on the scoresheet. Not your pinball score on the game.

Playoffs

PinGolf will be used to rank the overall performance of every participant. The exact number of people qualifying and advancing to the playoffs is to be determined and will be based on the overall number of participants. No more than 50% of those entering will advance to a playoff.

Format for each event is a qualifying round played at least 1 time on each game by each player. Qualifying is then used to rank players into playoff subgroups of 4. You can not do better or worse than the 4 pack you qualify in to. Playoffs for positions 5-?? consist of a 4 player game where top 2 continue on followed by a 2 player game to determine final position in each 4 pack. Top 4-pack play 2 games knockout style, leaving the top 2 remaining. They will play best of 3 games for positions 1 and 2.

Game Malfunctions

The games should be in good working order. Just like golf, we'll "play it as it lies." In other words, if a machine has a minor malfunction, the games will continue. A minor malfunction means that if the game still operates, we'll keep playing. If a particular mech breaks down but the rest of the game plays fine, we'll keep using the machine. After all, there are plenty of ways to earn points on a game. If one means of gaining points isn't working, earn points another way.

Courtesy Items

  • If you reach your target score, please drain all remaining balls when your turn comes up to keep the games moving. Do NOT continue to play, it will only lead to bottle necks.

  • If you earn a free game via an end of the game MATCH or from passing the REPLAY score, please do not play the game. Move on to the next hole and leave the credit for the next group. If you want, you can collect payment from the group behind you. But please try to keep your group moving.

  • Try to stay in order when it comes to playing through the round and always play the next "hole" - even if you have to wait.

  • Please be respectful of the machines. Mitchell Novelty was nice enough to tune them up for us, please nudge within reason. Those being excessively aggressive with the games may be asked to leave the tournament.

Side Tournament

There is an optional side tournament at Nick's House. This will run from 1:00pm to 10:00pm. Currently there is one game at Nick's House (Metallica). Play Metallica as many times as you want throughout the day. If a second game is added, it will be included in the tournament. Take a picture of your best score and email it to mkepinball@gmail.com. Be sure your photo includes the flyer on the backglass. Please only send your best score.

  • If two machines are at Nick's House, your rank will be based on combined score for both machines. If you only submit a score for one machine, your score will be a zero for the machine you did not submit a score for.
